Remarkably, it was the first time a Kenyan has won the 1500m event at the worlds, although Kenyan-born Bahraini Yusuf Kamel (2009) and American Bernard Lagat (2007) were holders of the last two world titles coming into Daegu.
"Kenyans are so good because they train a lot, they are training from January up until December and we are competing all over the country," he said.
Kenyan head coach Peter Mathu said the dominance of Kenya was down to a range of factors including a powerful work ethic and the experience of running from a young age as many children still have to run miles to school.
"We have a traditional method of training and Kenya is a high-altitude country and most athletes have come from a tough background."

Ominously for Kenya’s rivals, Mathu predicted improvements for next year’s London Olympics and the 2013 Moscow worlds as a young team matured.
"How we do in London and Russia, it is a continuation because the athletes we have, most of them are very young, they’ve run as juniors. When we go to the Olympics, they will be more mature, and when we go to the Russian championships they’ll be even better."
And Kenya even have plans to tackle the shorter events, with moves to improve facilities for sprinting.
"For London and in the future we will be having sprinters as well as distance runners," he said.
